Catherine Deneuve Biography
Catherine Fabienne Dorleac who is more famous as Catherine Deneuve, was born on October 22, 1943 in Paris, France. She was born to Maurice Dorleac and Renee Deneuve who are both French actors. She is the third child among four siblings. Her sisters are Francoise, Sylvie and Danielle Dorleac. She was still a teenager when she was introduced in the on the big screen in 1957.

Catherine Deneuve speaks both Italian and French. She also knows a little English and German. Her stage fright has hindered her to perform on the stage. Catherine was one a muse to the popular brand Yves-Saint Laurent. Saint Laurent also clothed her in the films Belle de jour in 1967, Chamade, La 1968, Sirene du Mississipi, La 1969, Un Flic 1972 and The Hunger in 1983.

In 1963 Catherine Deneuve starred in Le Vice et la Vertu. Her unforgettable portrayal in the movie Les Parapluies de Cherbourg in 1964 was her breakthrough performance. She also did Demoiselles de Rochefort, Les in 1967 but the movie was not so successful. Catherine’s other movies were Roman Polanski’s Repulsion, Belle de jour and Tristana and to name a few.

In 1992, she starred in the epic drama Indochine, where in she got her first Academy Award Nomination as Best Actress. Catherine Deneuve, together with talents Simone Signoret, Jeanne Moreau, Isabelle Hupert and Juliette Binoche, is hailed as grandes dames of the French cinema. In 1996, she wrote a letter for Lars von Trier and told him that she admires him so much and she wishes to work with him one day. In the year 2000, von Trier gave her a part in the movie Dance in the Dark.

With the talent and beauty that Catherine possesses, she was signed up as the model for Marianne, the French Republic symbol seen on stamps and French coins. She was also chosen as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in 1995 in film history by Empire Magazine. In October 1997, Catherine ranked 89 in The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time. She became the Vice President Jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 1994. Catherine also has a perfume brand that was named after her.

Catherine Deneuve is married to David Bailey. They have a son and a daughter whom they named Christian Vadim and Chiara Mastroianni. In the year 1994, she was given a tribute at Creteil International Women’s Film Festival in France. Her favorite actress is Marilyn Monroe and the 1991 film The Misfits is her favorite movie of all time.
